EIRMC Volunteer Marks 30-Years of Service
June 10, 2011
Idaho Falls, ID - For 30 years, Phyllis Duenes’s perpetual smile and ready-to-help attitude have made her an invaluable Volunteer at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. That 30-year mile-marker makes her the longest-serving Volunteer at the hospital.
Duenes started her hospital service in 1980, three years after the old River View and Parkview Hospitals merged and eventually became EIRMC. During those years, she has served at a variety of positions, including Physical Therapy, juice cart and snack bar, front desk, ICU waiting room and gift shop.
She is also a member of the Auxiliary, a fund-raising organization within EIRMC’s Volunteer Services Department, which donates to worthy causes and provides college scholarships.
“I absolutely love to volunteer,” said Duenes. “Not only do I get to make friends and meet lots of people, but I also get to enjoy the warm feelings that come from serving others.”
Duenes, who is originally from Durango, Colorado, has lived in Iona for 45 years. She was married to the late Leonard Duenes and has six children, five boys and one girl. She enjoys attending a sewing club, playing Pinochle with friends, dancing and traveling to Arizona during the winter.
