Cardiac Connections
We hear it all the time:"I wish other hospitals did this."
Sometimes what patients and their families need most is information, and we pride ourselves on providing it in a timely, compassionate, personal manner.
During heart surgery, we meet with the patient's family to answer questions and address concerns. We teach them about what we're doing and why we're doing it. When you are in our care, your family will never be at a loss for where to turn for support. They’ll have their own personal envoy to lean on and to tell them what to expect next – someone they can call upon at any time of the day or night.
From simply providing newsletters with pertinent information, to helping family members voice concerns to doctors or others on our staff, there is someone in your corner to offer support, solutions and to ensure that information is flowing both ways.
And after surgery, we match patients and their families with volunteers from our Heart Connection program. These volunteers, who are often former EIRMC patients, have first-hand knowledge and insight that can provide a ray of hope when it's most needed.
Another group of former patients have found that information is so vital, that they've actually started a support program on their own: the Committed Hearts. This non-profit organization helps current cardiac patients by offering personal support and providing an in-house library of books, reference materials, and a computer for individuals to use for research.
For information on any of these programs, contact Cardiac Connection Program Coordinator Steve Gudmundson at (208) 529-7893.
Free Heart Smart Seminars
We offer free "Heart Smart" seminars each month with the latest information on ways to stay heart healthy.
You'll learn the anatomy and physiology of the heart, about heart attack, the signs and symptoms (men vs. women)- a grab-bag of information to help you find, fix, and slow the effects of heart problems, as well as tips on what to do if you find yourself having a heart attack.
This is a great place to get real answers to your questions, and also to get help. It's not uncommon for our participants to realize that they may have a serious condition, and then make the decision to seek medical attention.
Remember, the best way to avoid damage from a heart attack is to prevent it from occurring in the first place. Attend one of our free Heart Smart Seminars and let us help you find and fix heart problems that might be lying ahead.
Seminars take place the second Thursday of each month in the Heart Center Classroom at EIRMC at both 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
For more information or to pre-register for a seminar, please call (208) 227-2778.
