When it comes to heart problems, "time is muscle." The quicker a heart attack patient receives care, the better the outcomes for the patient. That's why the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association have challenged hospitals to meet a 90-minute goal for ""Door to balloon" (D2B) times for heart attack patients.
EIRMC has far surpassed this national “best practices” standard, averaging 55 minutes over the last year. D2B refers to the elapsed time from when a heart attack patient hits the door of the ER to when the catheter guide wire is inserted in the cath lab.
EIRMC’s Heart Center also provides coronary bypass surgery using the “beating heart” or off-pump method, keeping a patient’s heart beating during surgery. The off-pump method, used 96.7% of the time at EIRMC compared with 21.2% nationally, has been proven to cut mortality rates, and decrease complications, ventilator time after surgery, time in the ICU, and time in the hospital.
EIRMC’s Echocardiology Lab also is accredited by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL). This 2-year process required that technicians maintain a higher level of training and meet ongoing educational hours. Additionally, both physicians and technicians must complete peer-to-peer reviews. EIRMC is the only hospital-based nuclear lab in Idaho, Montana & Wyoming with this accreditation.
